A Quick Hotel Stay In Sleepy San Luis Obispo, California

Positioned almost perfectly halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, SLO is a very convenient place to stay for a night or two if you’re driving on the coast. We chose the San Luis Creek Lodge for the sleek design and creature comforts (such as Aesop amenities). They also have lovely touches like hot coffee and scone delivery in the morning, which on our rainy day hit the spot.

Where We Eat & Drink

Restaurants

Brassiere SLO for dinner: Located in another great boutique hotel (SLO seems to be full of ‘em!) Brassiere SLO has a little something for everyone on the menu. We kept it simple after our drive day and went for some comforting chef’s daily special pizza and started with the lobster bisque. The menu changes often as the ingredients are sourced locally and seasonally.

Sidecar for cocktails: with the simple slogan of “Cocktails and Comfort food” you get exactly as advertised here, except the cocktails are exceptional. There is a loose music theme reflected in the names. We had “The E.P” (love any kind of mezcal/citrus combo.) If you make it early there’s also a weekly happy hour.

Field Day for coffee: It feels like everyone in SLO comes here for morning coffee. It was pretty packed when we arrived (maybe it was the rain). But it was great for a latte and a working space for those that brought their laptops. The shop is run by a husband and wife team and they have coffees from New York, Massachusetts and even Denmark.

Next Door at the Granada hotel for anything: In a cute boutique hotel called the Granada (read above), Next Door is a great retail space for a quick gift, glass of wine and even has a food menu if you need a place to grab lunch which we did. Whatever time of day you swing by you’ll find something!
