Sea Ranch, CA
Our Relaxing Weekend at The Sea Ranch House Airbnb
If you’re looking for a place that feels uniquely isolated and devoid of time, Sea Ranch is a great place to getaway and unplug. It’s about two and a half hours north of San Francisco and no joke, one of the most beautiful drives we’ve ever done. Also a challenge for those who get carsick (me) so prepare accordingly - just let the sparkling waves wash over you instead of the nausea.
Once we arrived we spent most of the time moving between fire sources - the Airbnb where we stayed (The Sea Ranch House) not only had an outdoor fire pit but also an indoor wood-burning fireplace. And if those two heat sources weren’t enough we also spent time in the hot tub on the back porch, gazing up at the stars and being overshadowed by redwoods.

What We Eat and Drink - Sea Ranch, CA
Our host gave us plenty of great recommendations for nearby restaurants and towns but we actually took the opportunity to hole ourselves up and spend all weekend cooking. Our menu was:
Grilled Corn and Avocado Salad with Feta Dressing (NYT Cooking): we paired this with a snappy ceviche.
Alison Roman’s A Very Good Lasagna: our weekend project that didn’t quite turn out how we hoped. It’s not Alison’s fault - it was our fault. I suspect I added a bit too much water. Let’s just say it tasted better for breakfast since it was more cold and congealed.
Pumpkin Bread with Brown Butter and Bourbon: if you could put the feeling of crisp Fall and being in front of a fire into a recipe this would be it. Start counting down to pumpkin season and make this!
