Airbnbs for Girls and Couples trips in Sonoma, CA
Spending time in wine country has become one of my favorite weekend excursions. It’s only about an hour’s drive from San Francisco so it’s convenient to get to and there are so many areas to stay in. When we’re not in Healdsburg we usually stay in Sonoma, which is like the cooler younger sister of Napa.
For a girls trip my friends and I stayed in a cottage in Glen Ellen, an adorable town with not much more than a main street and a few charming stores. It’s about 15 minutes away from the Sonoma square and about 30 minutes to Napa so very easy to jump off to other places in the various valleys. We loved the patio for cheese plates, the cozy fireplace in the primary bedroom and maybe even snuck a glass of wine in the bathtub.
For a recent couples trip we stayed in a modern farmhouse, located about ten minutes south of the Sonoma square. The property was truly in farm land which made for a cool experience. While it was too cold to use the pool, the property shares a fence with some friendly animal neighbors (goats, sheep and alpacas), which made for some fun visits. The interiors had a nice mix of rustic decor and modern amenities.
Both places were a great representation of wine country character.
Where We Eat and Drink in Sonoma, California
If you’re not visiting a few vineyards when in wine country you’re not doing it right! On our list:
Wineries and Vineyards
Scribe: I joined this winery about two years ago and can say it is one of my happy places. Their Hacienda tasting comes with snacks fresh from the garden and views of the vineyards, or you can choose to picnic casually on the Knoll hillside. Either experience is delightful.
Gundlach Bunschu: One of the oldest family owned vineyards in California this property sits right next to Scribe so it’s easy to do them both around the same time. They have a lot of space so it’s great for groups and is pet friendly.
Faust (technically in Napa): I planned this trip for a girls weekend with my best friends from college so I wanted to go places that had different feels - whereas Scribe is more boho Faust has more edge; the gothic black house is decorated with modern art inside. We even bought a bottle of wine that had a limited edition label designed by the same artist who did the house’s interior walls.
Quintessa (technically in Napa): A good one to save for last this estate is so expansive and breathtaking! After our red and white tasting we got to hop on a golf cart and tour the gorgeous property. Highly recommend!
Restaurants
For restaurants a few favorites in the Sonoma area are the girl and the fig, Valley Bar and Bottle and Wit & Wisdom at the Lodge hotel. If you’re also staying in Glen Ellen Les Pascals is the go to bakery in the morning for a coffee, french pastry or croissant.
